Erika Stanley was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. Three days after graduating high school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an education in Communication Design from Otis Art Institute of Parson's School of Design (a sister school of the famous Parson's Art Institute in New York City). Her tuition was partially paid by a scholarship that was awarded on her art portfolio by the National Scholastic Awards Competition which was a large national art competition for high school graduates. Three of her eight potfolio pieces won national awards and two more won regional awards, making her portfolio one of the top entries nationwide. One of the pieces which won a national award was a water color portrait of her father, which also hung on the walls inside the White House in Washington D.C. during the National Scholastic Awards Exhibit of Gold Key awaard winners. It was her first attempt at water colors.

During high school, her father gave her his then thirty year old Petri camera and taught her about light readings, aperatures and shutter speeds. In one 20 minute lesson, she grasped it all. Soon she began shooting photos with her innate artistic eye.

Since that day in 1984, Erika has taken on various freelance photographic projects. Her subjects include models, bands, actors, actresses, stunt men, products and more. She has been processing, developing and printing her own film and photographs in the dark room since 1988. Erika has created published photographic works for the following clients and companies:

For twenty years, Erika enjoyed a successful career as an internationally-known, published, and award winning tattoo artist. Over the past few years, she picked up the camera and returned to her first love - photography. In 2012, she opened Flash & Burn, a photo studio in Copenhagen. Where she rents out the studio space to upcoming photographers, and holds group photo sessions and workshops. She does this to establish a community of photographers and for everyone involved to benefit by making connections with fellow photographers, make up artists, stylists and models. She is currently pursuing fashion photography to leave her mark on the fashion world with her unique "eye" for composition.

She now lives bi-continentally on both Europe and North America and travels extensively. Her home bases are in Copenhagen and Los Angeles/Las Vegas and shoots on location in these areas. Please see the page for details on working with Erika.
